One house, two lights

3D visualization of the same two-story house at dusk, with soffit downlights and lit windows

3D visualization by Ar•Qi Designs.

The Timber Screen House shown by day and at dusk: the same facade, two readings of its timber, plaster and lit soffits.

The Timber Screen House is a two-story house designed by the studio and developed in 3D. The same view is shown twice: once in daylight and once at dusk.

By day

In daylight the house reads as a set of stacked volumes. White plaster walls sit against dark gray bands and panels of vertical timber slats, under a thin, projecting roof. The upper floor extends over a covered carport and entrance, and balconies with glass balustrades open the upper rooms to the outside. A stone-clad wall marks the entry.

At dusk

At dusk the timber-lined soffits come forward. Downlights set into them wash the facade, and the rooms behind the timber screens are lit from within.

Where 3D sits in our process

In our design process, the 3D design is stage six of eight. It is the third point at which a client reviews and approves the work, after the proposal and the initial plan, and before the final plans are drawn.

All images in this entry are 3D visualizations, not photographs of a completed building.
